Shining Light, a Christian-based non-profit based out of St Mary’s in West Chicago that serves the surrounding community in helping individuals and families who are in crisis situations.

We provide long-term mentoring, support groups, educational classes and referrals to outside organizations. As of now, we collaborate with local schools, county and state agencies to make sure that every individual receives the utmost care and respect in meeting their needs.

We also oversee a special needs ministry, Children of Mary, to provide emotional, physical, and spiritual support to help them assimilate to their environment and lead productive lives. Since our inception, we have helped over 1200 families, and recently have supported many immigrant families assimilate to their new environment.

We welcome volunteers who can assist us with the following:

Willing to provide an educational class such as job seeking, financial awareness, nutrition and smart buying, etc.

Facilitate support groups such as grieving, single moms, marriage crisis, forgiveness, self-esteem, aging parents, etc.

Help with man-power in moving furniture from donors to families that are in need, (1st Saturday of the month)

Client intakes

Assist on Friday events with special needs group

Scheduling and overseeing furniture pickups and deliveries

Facilitating Bible studies

One-on-one mentoring to immigrant families

Bi-lingual interpreter for client intakes

Help organizing and sorting clothes donations.
